Over 100 face shields donated

Over the past three weeks over 100 face shields have been given out to essential workers in the Chicago land suburbs area. Some of these areas/workers include hospitals, clinics, grocery stores, postal workers, barbers, tow truck drivers, and many others.

Thank you for all of the contributions and support on GoFundMe platform, which made all of this possible. All of the proceeds of this campaign went to the purchase of materials which were used to donate free face shields to the wonderful workers that keep our society functioning during these difficult times.

GoFundMe almost fully funded!

Thanks to all of the donations, another 50 masks are being made to be soon distributed to clinics, hospitals, hospices, grocery store workers, and postal workers.

A special thank you to all of the donors and helpers that made this possible.

Another order of 18 masks ready to be picked up :)

An order of 18 face shields being packaged for an urgent care center in Hanover Park.

A little about our packaging ( making sanitation a priority )

  • each shield is sanitized with alcohol before packaging

  • a plastic zip lock bag is used to store each shield

  • gloves are always used when making and handling masks

Each mask comes with instructions on how to use and sanitize

First donation of face shields!

The first donation of face shields has been donated to Journey Care Hospice :)

With the help from a friend named Mark Pasia, we were able to create a first batch of face shields and donate them to a local hospice.

A little bit about the design

The design of these face shield uses plastic headbands that are regulatory worn of top of the head to hold hair away from the eyes or face. The reason for this switch was due to the time intensive process of 3D printing that did not allow to for a quick manufacturing turn around.

Time comparison:

  • 3D printing one headband = 1.5 hours

  • Riveting one headband = 5 minutes

By saving this much time we can produce more face shields and therefore reach more people in need of protective equipment.

Final design, ready for production!

Here is the final design in use, presented by me, Marcin. At this moment we have material to produce about 20 masks which will be used as a test run to receive feedback from from nurses, caregivers, and other people that will be given the first prototypes. We are open to feedback and can customize to the preference of the user.

Clear shield prototype

Clear shield material has finally arrived and is used to make a working prototype of face shield. The material is a transparent shield that can be wiped clean with alcohol without clouding the plastic.

Improvements made:

  • added thicker inner foam band for comfort

  • rounded edges of clear shield to prevent cuts

  • using 4 rivets instead of 3, improved mounting of shield to headband

Visor sizing prototypes

A test of 3 different visor sizes:

12” x 10” (left) , worked best because provides protection on sides and does not hit the chest when looking downwards

12” x 12” (middle)

12” x 13” (right)

PROTECTIVE MASKS

Join us in the fight against Covid-19

In the last few weeks, our lives have been changed. As the world tries to cope with the spread of Covid-19, we have been placed into uncharted territory. As hospitals, medical centers, and other essential facilities struggle to help patients, a shortage of supplies has made this fight that more difficult.

Located in the Chicagoland suburban area, I along with my brother Tomasz W. and friend Mark P. have decided to join the fight by creating protective face shields. After hearing about the shortage of protective gear in Chicagoland area, we hope to provide some help to the ones that are most in need.

Testing the size of front protective shield that will provide best protection for user. We are waiting for materials to arrive that’s why we had to resort to paper…
